…the mist began to rise. There was something or someone in the glen. He moved closer, slowly. Through the mist, he could barely make out a horse standing in the glen, its head hanging low. Just in front, was a man, dressed in armor that glistened in the moonlight; he was kneeling on the ground, with his head bowed. Rising from the ground just in front of the man, a sword, its handle and pommel forming a cross, like the headstone of a grave. The man appeared to be praying. As he drew close, the knight turned to face him, and spoke "She waits and she is alone. Who will she turn to? She cries in the darkness. Who will save her…"
Was it possibly true that his very existence had been determined some 500 years ago, when two knights faced each other in battle, just there to the south, beyond the Tyne, a few miles from where he now sat? Is that the way it worked? Were the events of human history connected to every birth and every death? Logically, there were only two possibilities. Either every human birth is a completely random event without any meaning or real purpose. Or every human birth is predetermined by a purposeful, all knowing, all powerful Creator; One who has the ability to determine human events, even the birth of child, because the Creator exists outside of space-time and has the ability to alter any event. Of course, this requires that the former would mean there was absolutely no real meaning behind any human event and that human history has no significance whatsoever, while the latter would mean that every human birth and death had real purpose and meaning and in the big picture, some may have greater purpose than others. Ultimately, it means we are either alone, or we are not alone, either there is purpose and meaning or there is not.
He had always believed that the latter was true-that everything has a purpose and meaning-and now he was becoming more convinced that it was true; that there is a plan and purpose for all things and all people. What about now? Was there a purpose or reason behind him being here right now, at this particular moment?
